Highlights of Technology and Learning

by David Turner and Paul Holbrook, Administrators of Marshall Middle School

Dear Community Members,

At Marshall Middle School we have ongoing dialogue in regards to student achievement, academic assessment, school improvement, discipline, middle school philosophy, parent/community involvement, and curriculum rigor. We continue to have high student achievement (based on annual MEAP results) and we are always looking for ways to improve our performance.

In response to some of the new state requirements for all students we are working towards providing students with a rigorous curriculum with the highest of academic expectations and ensuring annual academic growth.

In an effort to provide our community with a better understanding of what we have been working on at Marshall Middle School this year we are sharing some of the developing programs that we believe will make a significant difference in the overall experience for the Marshall Middle School student.

  1. Lenses on Learning: Six teachers, one counselor, and one administrator are learning various methods of improving middle school math instruction.
  2. IMMAP (Improving Middle Math Achievement Program): Two teachers and one administrator are learning ways to incorporate new technology into assessment, instruction, and achievement.
  3. High School and Middle School Redesign: Two counselors, two administrators, and six teachers are examining the new high school graduation requirements and their implications on the middle school.
  4. Re-alignment of Middle School Math and Science course contents: Two counselors, two administrators, and 12 teachers are involved in the adjustment of grade level content expectations and core information taught.
  5. Middle School Philosophy: Student Council, PCO (Parent Council Organization), and the entire middle school staff are involved in creating a document that will be used as a filter for all decisions in the middle school.
  6. 2007- 2008 Student Handbook: Student Council, PCO, and the middle school staff are involved in revising our handbook for the upcoming school year. Parents are encouraged to attend our next meeting (February 27) if they wish to partake in this endeavor.
