We have really been working hard on improving the climate and culture of the middle school.  A couple major areas we are trying to improve are the hallways and stairwells.  To accomplish that goal we instructed all students to use the right side of the hallway and stairwells when moving about the building - much like driving on our streets.  We even added "IN" and "OUT" posters on doors to remind students to always enter a room on the right as well.  So far the students have responded by meeting the expectations.  I have even heard students thanking individuals who held the door open for them.  This small step has helped students be more relaxed going from class to class which in turn helps students focus on academics rather than hallway issues.  I am really proud of the students for their cooperation.
Marshall Public Schools is making a concerted effort to create a positive environment during school and at all extra-curricular events.
To help accomplish our goal we are asking that all students and parents abide by the following REDHAWK PRIDE expectations:
Watch the game from the stands.
•Use school-appropriate language (even when we are only talking with our friends).
•Walk up and down the bleachers safely.
•Take turns entering and exiting the bleachers.
•Show good sportsmanship.
•Respect the space of others.
•Put our trash in the proper place.
•Follow adult directions.
Be sure to regularly check your child's academic performance (once every other day).  Teachers are entering academic progress at least once a week for their Effort grade.  In the next week or so expect to see a grade in the "C" grade area.  It is probably wise for you to remind your child to start studying for upcoming tests as well.
