MMS Announcements

CALENDAR CHANGES:   In an effort to keep you informed so you may better plan for the end of the current school year, we are announcing the following changes to our school calendar:
     *  The District will be extending the school year to make up for lost 
         instructional hours due to weather-related school delays and closures 
     *  The week of June 2-6 will be regular full days
     *  June 9th will be a regular full day 
     *  June 10th will be a half day
If we experience any additional weather delays or closures, the lost instructional time will be added to the calendar the week of June 9th as necessary. We will keep you informed of any further changes to the school calendar as they may arise. We need to emphasize the importance of your student(s) attending these official days of instruction, as required by State Law. Should you have any further questions, please contact the middle school office.
PCO MEETING: Our next PCO Meeting will be held WednesdayApril 2nd at 6:30 pm in the LRC.

Early Release: TuesdayApril 29th is an EARLY RELEASE day.  Middle School students will be released at 12:00 Noon.
Medication Procedures
In accordance with Marshall Public School policy a Medical Administration Authorization form must be completed by a parent and signed by a physician before authorized school personnel can administer medication. This includes both over the counter medication and prescription medication. All medication is to be hand delivered by a parent or guardian to the school office. All medication must be in a properly labeled container bearing the pharmacist's label for prescription medications or original container for over the counter medications.  Medication that is brought to the school by a student will not be administered. For further information, you may refer to the Middle School student handbook, page 6.

ABSENCE REPORTING:  To report an absence or excuse an absence/tardy for your student, please call the attendance line at (269) 781-1291, or you may e-mail Carol Ramon @ cramon@marshallpublicschools.org. 
If your student needs a little extra academic support, MMS has Academic Support available Monday - Friday with Mrs. Fletcher from 2:40 – 3:30 pm.
Cyber café: Cyber café will be held in the LRC Computer Lab three days a week. Students may take the late bus home and may get bus passes at Cyber café. Cyber café will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2:40-3:45. Please see Ms. Baril if you have any questions 
Mrs. Demorest is thrilled to be the Box Tops for Education Coordinator for Marshall Middle School.  Box Tops is such an easy way for parents to get involved in their child’s education.  Just by purchasing Box Tops products, Clipping the coupons and sending them into school, we earn cash that can be used to buy anything we need.
Want to earn some really cool prizes? All you have to do is bring in as many Box Tops for Education coupons as possible throughout the school year. This year we will have 3 prize drawings along with a homeroom challenge for several exciting prizes!  Bring in your Box Tops to Mrs. Demorest (room E210) during homeroom.  Place your first and last name on the back of each Box Top.  Then place your box tops in the appropriate grade level box.  The more Box Tops you bring in the better your chances are at winning!

Track and Field Announcement
·         Tennis try-outs begin 4/14/14.
·         Current physicals (dated after 4/15/13) must be turned in to the office before conditioning or trying out.  Please check with your doctor to schedule an appointment before the season starts!  
·         Schedules are posted on the Athletic website.
All 7th and 8th grade students are invited to participate in Track and Field this year.  The season will begin in March and will run through May.  The events include sprinting, distance, hurdles, shot put, long jump and high jump.  Please encourage your child to participate - it's a great sport to see personal and team growth.  To participate, your child will need a physical on file prior to practice.

Running Club
7th and 8th graders are welcome to drop into the Redhawk Running Club!  The running club meets every Monday after school in Miss Bacigal's room.  The running club will continue until track season starts in March.
